Young defense woman. This young woman, trained in a National Youth Administration (NYA) work center, is contributing to defense as the result of skill acquired on the government project. Women worked in factories during World War II to help the war effort, the Works Progress Administration documented their work. As the United States of America joined World War II they needed factory workers, and their economy had not fully recovered yet, so the Works Progress Administration was still intact. Therefore, the Works Progress Administration logically would train youth, in the National Youth Administration, in activities and jobs that would assist with the war effort.
